A Naturalist's Year - 1st Quarter

This post was begun shortly before COVID-19 (coronavirus) arrived in North America, but after it had already become apparent that it would probably become a worldwide catastrophe. Fortunately I've been able to get out in forest and field in places where hardly anyone goes and it’s easy to self-isolate.

Unfortunately, this crisis will continue for quite some time and, in spite of what some people say or desire, get much worse; I hope to still get outside as often as I can to bring you accounts and photographs of the great outdoors.

Back by popular demand a photo a day throughout the year. Well, it’s not actually popular demand that brings this feature back; it’s really because we all need a diversion these days and I enjoy the challenge of getting a photo of some aspect of the natural world each day.

So, come journey with me throughout the year. Usually we’ll be in northcentral Pennsylvania, but some days we may have ranged further afield to other areas. Here are the daily photographs from the first quarter of 2020; hopefully you’ll find the viewing of them as enjoyable as I did the taking of them –

Hopefully, you enjoyed these photographs and they encourage you to, whenever you can, get out to see the wonders and beauty of the natural world - and help to protect it as well.

All the best to you and yours, wherever you may be please stay away from other folks and stay healthy.

  8. What beautiful photos...all of them! You should make a book with these. Love the pose of the Bobcat with it's bobtail. The 2 we've seen here in FL have longer tails than that but are still bobcats. Take care and stay safe! Glad you can still get outside some!

  9. Woody - it has been quite some time since I visited you, and how blessed I am that I chose this week to pop over from Saturday's Critters. You have been a busy bee in the first quarter, and we are all the better for it. Hard to say what my favorites are, but I certainly think the cocoons are very unique! Stay well, and enjoy the week ahead.
